KTA Mason-Dixon Trail Backpack

October 22 @ 12:00 pm – October 23 @ 4:00 pm

Mason-Dixon Trail Backpack | 14-mile, strenuous, moderate pace, linear | 12:00 pm Thursday-4:00 pm Friday | 2092 Long Level Road, Wrightsville, PA 17368
Spend a night on the Mason-Dixon Trail. We’ll start at the mouth of Otter Creek by Otter Creek Campground, take in the view at Urey Overlook, and arrive at the Apollo Park Shelter on Thursday for a total of 6.5 miles. On Friday, we’ll continue hiking 7.5 miles along the Susquehanna River and encounter the steep climbs and rock scrambles through Cuffs Run- an ecologically sensitive habitat currently threatened by a proposed hydroelectric pump storage facility project being fought by KTA and other partners offering events this weekend. Our hike ends at our cars in Wrightsville. Due to the strenuous terrain with full backpacks, this trip is recommended for fit, experienced backpackers. Anticipate nearly 3,000 feet of elevation gain. See the route here. Participants will need: backpack, sleeping bag and pad, flashlight/headlamp, trekking poles, rain gear, clothing layers, sturdy hiking boots or trail runners, food (lunch/snacks, dinner, and breakfast), backpacking stove, water filter (leader will have adequate cooking gear and filter for the group if needed), and any necessary personal medications. Extreme storms cancel this activity. This activity costs $15.

Hosted by Tim Bennett, Keystone Trails Association Volunteer and Coleen Dzik, President of the Mason-Dixon Trail System
